Tivadar Kardos was a specialist of helpmates and twomovers, especially miniatures. He was an International Judge.
Together with István Rágó, from 1969 to 1976 he published the paper "Feladványkedvelők Lapja" (Paper of the Friends of Chess Problems)
He wrote with Gabriel Authier "125 problèmes, et quelques autres du dernier demi-siecle: sélectionnés dans le genre blocus à mat ajoutés et changés" in 1956 and "275 problèmes d'échecs du genre mutate: en deux coups" also in collaboration with G. Authier and Roger Diot.
In 1983 Walter Fentze published the compilation "Tivadar Kardos: 200 ausgewählte Schachprobleme".

He prefers composing Rook endgames and has often successfully developed ideas of composers from the past (such as the study quoted on Wikipedia.de inspired by N.D. Grigoriev).
He is also an International Judge for studies and was the World Champion of the WCCI 1998-2000 for studies.

Walter William Jacobs (26-09-1914 - 11-02-1982) American composer

Walter Jacobs was a mathematician, cryptologist, and statistician and you can read more about his career here or with even more details here.
He composed mainly direct-movers but also produced many helpmates, selfmates and fairy problems. He became problem editor of the Chess Review in 1935.
Alain White wrote about his talent as a chess composer in "A Sketchbook of American Chess Problematists" (Volume 2, pages 62-66).
In 1943 Jacobs co-authored with White "Variation Play", a study of Black mechanisms in twomovers.
His obituary by Norman McLeod was published in The Problemist, May 1982 (page 226-227). The Problemist issue can be found on the BCPS website.

André Chéron was a chess player who is nowadays best known for his work in the theory of endgames and for his written works.
In 1952 his "Nouveau traité d'échecs - la fin de partie" was published and included almost 700 more studies than the 1927 "Traité complet d'échecs". His masterwork was the 4-volume "Lehr und Handbuch der Endspiele", which contains 2336 studies (2nd edition: vol.1 - 1960, vol.2 - 1964, vol.3 - 1969 and vol.4 - 1970).

André Chéron also wrote about chess composition "Les Échecs artistiques" (1934).
He was one of the first five persons who received the title of International Master in chess composition. He was 3 times French chess champion and he also wrote books about bridge.
