Eduard Birgfeld was a chess composer and editor. He composed mostly selfmates.
He headed the content-rich chess column in the Chemnitzer Tageblatt (1924-1928). His book Fata Morgana (1922) is famous for its 950 problems with changed play.
From 1928 to 1939, Birgfeld was president of the die Schwalbe association. He was also the first president of the IPB (International Problem Board), an international association which was later officially replaced in Wiesbaden in 1959 by the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition (nowadays WFCC).
One of his famous Rundauf problems is presented on his Wikipedia webpage. Let's show another one.
