For beginners

If you have no idea what this is all about, but are still interested in learning more about chess problems, you might enjoy browsing through the following materials, which are actually intended for beginners:

• in English, an "Introduction to the Art of Chess Composition" by our Australian friends from OzProblems.com
• The British Chess Problem Society also has some pages for beginners, as well as recommended books. The PDF files of issues of "The Problemist Supplement" are also available for download.  As the BCPS states: "This magazine is aimed mainly at newcomers to chess composition, so it is recommended for those who want to find out more about chess problems." And finally issues of The Problemist can also be read on their rich website.
• The detailed solution, with many explanations, of a selfmate in two moves by Jason Rosenhouse, on Sunday Chess Problem.

• French-speaking persons will prefer "echekk", a didactical introduction in la langue de Molière (the site also proposes interesting articles for more advanced readers)
• An Introduction to the chess problem in French is also available. "Introduction aux problèmes d'échecs" is a selection of texts by Camil Seneca, Xavier Tartakover, René Mayer and Jean Bertin, compiled by Patrick Martinez.

• For German-speaking readers, I can recommend the Wikipedia webpage about Schachkomposition for the moment.
• Another page worth mentioning is the dictionary of fairy terms on die Schwalbe's website.
