Kenneth Samuel Howard wrote several books about chess composition: "How to solve chess problems" (1945), "The enjoyment of chess problems" (1943) and "One hundred years of the American two-move chess problem; a collection of 212 compositions by United States problemists" (1962).

Albert Servais (12-04-1893 - 13-02-1970) Belgian composer

Albert Servais has composed about 1000 problems, mostly twomovers. He was the editor of the problems section of the Belgian correspondence chess players bulletin and of the Echiquier Belge. An article was dedicated to him and his work in Thèmes 64 no.22/1961 pages 338-339.

The Servais theme is a twomover theme thus defined : the key unpins a white piece and a black piece. Besides, it also creates a white half-pin and a black half-pin. In variations, the unpinning white piece and the unpinned white piece exploit the alternate pinning of the two black unpinned pieces. The theme is displayed by this problem by Servais.
